You will never see Ernesto Langa in real life or in photos without him sporting a hearty laugh. Thankfully for the rest of us, he’s a sharer. He has been a pillar of our work in Mozambique, sharing joy, laughter, and play to countless children and communities in the country. We recently caught up with him for more on his work!
CWB: Hello Ernesto! How did you find out about the Clowns and how did you get involved?
Ernesto: It was when an acquaintance was looking for clowns in Mozambique that I first got to know about CWB. I soon realised how essential CWB’s work is because it promotes laughter, play, and positive mental health.
CWB: Can you share a memorable moment when you witnessed the power of CWB’s work?
Ernesto: I’ve had many such moments, it’s like a series of déjà vu! In Beira and Cabo Delgado in Mozambique, when the CWB team arrived, children and adults often had sombre expressions. But as soon as the CWB performers started to play and engage with them, the faces of the people would light up with joy. It’s always incredible to see the transformative power of laughter and play.
CWB: Is there a particular story of a child you met that has stayed with you?
Ernesto: I don’t recall a specific child’s story but I do remember the collective joy and laughter we shared with the communities we visited.
CWB: What brings you joy in your work?
Ernesto: I find immense joy in doing what I love: playing, laughing, and creating. Sharing these experiences with others, especially children, and working with a talented team of people from different backgrounds is incredibly rewarding.
CWB: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
Ernesto: I would love to see everyone filled with happiness, sharing laughter and love. I hope children can truly be children, and adults can maintain their inner child. I believe that joy, love, and peace should be prioritised over material possessions and wealth.
